BOTOX^® (botulinum toxin A) is an FDA-approved injectable medication used to soften wrinkles in the face. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and is especially effective in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?

This cosmetic treatment is intended for patients with unwanted wrinkles on the face. The forehead, glabella, and “crows feet” are common areas that can be improved.

Lines develop after years of repeated creasing — and those lines can remain visible, even after the muscles you use to make such expressions are at rest.

HOw is botox performed?

After a consultation by our experts, a plan of treatment will be customized to your problem areas. Injections use ultrafine needles to provide the least discomfort.

Doses are determined by each patient’s needs. Part of the appeal of BOTOX® is the fact that it can be administered quickly — literally within minutes — and comes with virtually no recovery or down time. Patients can walk in and walk out a short time later with a fresh, more youthful look.

Once BOTOX® has been injected, communication via the nerves in the treatment area is effectively shut down. This prevents the muscle contractions that cause the unwanted lines and wrinkles. The smoothing effects can last up to 4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated. You can choose to stop getting BOTOX® injections at any time, but know that your forehead’s appearance will eventually go back to the way it was before you began treatments.

Recovery from botox

Bruising and swelling are very rare, so most patients can return to work or activities immediately after treatment. Patients are asked to abstain from strenuous physical activity for 24 hours.

Results

After 5-7 days, patients will see a weakening in the muscles that cause wrinkles that lasts 3-5 months. Wrinkles when the face is at rest gradually soften over that time as the skin turns over. Treatments that accelerate skin turnover can help hasten this process for the most stubborn lines and wrinkles.
